A fantastic day at the #HooPeninsula Heritage festival. Celebrating 200 years since the birth of Thomas Aveling who was a pioneering engineer the father of the traction engine who lived in #Hoo whose company in #Strood Aveling & Porter became the largest Stream Roller manufacturer in the world. The festival was officially opened by another local legend Deputy Lieutenant of Kent Jools Holland OBE. There was great music by Peninsula Big Band and the 1404 Chatham Sqn ATC RAF Air Cadets Kent Wing marching band, steam roller collection by Robert Deards Royal British Legion Robin Vincent, classic cars, history, food and drink and lots of fun in a newly harvested field in Hoo Village.
It was wonderful to be made Hon President of the Thomas Aveling Society and I have been pleased to support their efforts to get this fantastic event to happen - well done to all involved and who worked to make it happen and the sponsors particularly ward Cllr Michael Pearce can’t wait till next years event.
