Yesterday I was fortunate once again to deliver a question to the Prime Minister. On this occasion I was pleased to highlight the successes of our local science and technology SMEs and seek the continued commitment to ensure that all parts our economy are able to seize the opportunities that present themselves as we leave the EU.
Rochester Airport and Medway City Industrial Estate is home to a number of growing and established science and technology companies that are contributing to great innovation and our economy. I have been pleased to visit and work with some of them, such as Digital Contact, whose founder took part in last year’s Business, Innovation and Skills Committee inquiry into the digital economy.
As part of the Prime Minister’s commitment to supporting our smaller businesses, I was delighted to learn that she will in fact be joined by a cohort of science and tech SMEs on an upcoming trade mission to India. As we prepare to leave the European Union it is crucial we take these steps to increase trading relationships with these large emerging economies and expand our exports economy.
I will continue to raise the profile and success stories our wide ranging SMEs across Rochester and Strood, particularly as we look at the arrangements for leaving the European Union so as to ensure the interests of all sectors are taken into account.
