Kelly Tolhurst MP welcomed last week the Government’s GREAT.gov.uk website which is designed to match supply and demand, put power in the hands of businesses to start exporting or attract investors, and make doing business abroad as attractive as it is to do business at home.
Registered companies can promote their goods and services to international buyers, search hundreds of export opportunities and access preferential deals that we have negotiated with online marketplaces. The site is intended to be the first place businesses think of when they consider business abroad, acting as an aggregator for the complex exporting market by also signposting to other sources of advice.
The Department for International Trade regional teams are also seeking to identify local companies in your area who would be happy to talk about the new digital products and the benefits they can bring to companies looking to start exporting or to grow their exports. Kelly encourages any local businesses engaged to get in touch with DIT South East using the below details.
Kelly received an MP Toolkit to help promote local exporting, saying “I hope to use the information and guidance to encourage businesses in Rochester and Strood to register as exporters now, in advance of international promotion in the New Year.
“Locally, we are blessed with many innovative and outward-looking businesses but there is more we can do to help them reach their full potential for the benefit of our local and national economy. I will be engaging with local businesses going forward to ensure our local exports receive the right support to grow.”
While only 11% of UK businesses export and only 6-7% of UK exporters target high growth economies such as India and China, it is with these measures Kelly and the DIT hope to provide businesses with the confidence and encouragement to get started or take the next step onto the global marketplace.
