Medway Hospital have opened a new Cardio Respiratory ward which was part of the £5 million project to transform the old Ruby ward to provide more than 30 new beds at the hospital with state of the art facilities for patients with serious breathing problems or heart conditions.
it was great to visit the new facilities with colleague Rehman Chishti the MP for Gillingham & Rainham, meeting Jayne Black CEO, Nick Sinclair COO and the team who have implemented this great new facility, We also were able to take a look at the improved Sunderland Day Care Unit, which has significantly increased capacity to deal with more day case operations.
The new ward includes a 7 bed Respiratory Support unit which provided a higher level of monitoring for the sickest patients.
This is the first phase of the longer term plan by the hospital to develop a Cardio Respiratory Village.
It was great to hear about the improvements that Patient first programme is making in the hospital, who have had a challenging period over the winter but are totally committed to keep pushing for improvement and change.
