Kelly Tolhurst, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Rochester and Strood, has pledged to take action to address problems with crime and antisocial behaviour in our local high streets.
Kelly has met with the PCC, Matthew Scott, on several occasions in the last year to press for a greater Police presence and resources to support local communities. She also regularly meets with Medway Officers to take up residents’ concerns.
There have been increasing complaints from residents around the rise of anti-social behaviour in Chatham. Many of the incidents reported are alcohol or drugs related, with shoppers at times feeling harassed.
This follows the issues caused by travellers in certain parts of the area, where affected residents have complained of anti-social behaviour and intimidation. However, problems have arisen around removing the travellers within an appropriate timeframe.
This is where Kelly is hopeful of securing more police support to deal with these issues and help protect residents when going about their daily lives.
Kelly said:
“It is unacceptable for our residents to feel unsafe when simply going to the local shops or walking within their community. I want to ensure our streets and society have the right protections with more officers on the ground doing what they do best. I will work hard to ensure that Rochester and Strood gets the visible policing and action that residents want and deserve.
“I shall also continue my work in Parliament to get Kent Police the resources it needs from the new funding formula.”
