Kelly Tolhurst MP has been pleased to learn that Medway Council is one of the 51 councils that have been successfully shortlisted for the Government’s Future High Streets Fund which aims to transform high streets and make them fit for the future.
In March 2019, Medway Council had submitted an expression of interest for a share of the £675 million fund and they have now been asked to submit detailed plans on what they would do with the money, if successful.
Miss Tolhurst has been calling on Ministers to consider Medway’s bid for additional investment to improve the local town centre. The fund could unlock £14 million which would be invested into Chatham to further economic growth, increase housing, create more jobs and provide a vibrant town centre experience.
Kelly Tolhurst said: “I am very pleased that Medway has been successful in the first stage of this bidding process which will see a huge multi-million pound investment in Chatham, if the Council is successful in the next stage”
“I have been supportive of this bid and have been liaising with Ministers to make the case for Medway and how this funding would greatly help our local area.”
