The upcoming bridge refurbishment works on the A228 Stoke Bridge are now due to commence on Monday 24 July for approximately two months. Most of the works are planned to be carried out between the hours of 7am and 7pm, however there may be occasions when work are carried out at night.
I have been working closely with Medway Council, the Government and Network Rail over recent months on the works to press upon Network Rail how important this bridge is to the local road network and made sure they realise that disruption must be kept to a minimum. Medway Council’s highways department have been managing the ongoing road surface issue on this structure and have been progressing a permanent solution which includes resurfacing the whole road across the structure whilst causing the least disruption to the road network.
Due to my intervention to bring both parties together, Medway Council and Network Rail have been working on options which will mean vehicle access is always maintained, which was not the case beforehand.
As part of these refurbishment works, Network Rail will reopen the crossing to allow vehicular access when the bridge is closed. This means we will be able to always maintain access on this crucial piece of the network which will significantly reduce the impact to residents and business in Grain.
