Kelly Tolhurst MP has taken on a role to become Fibromyalgia Ambassador to help raise awareness about this health condition. Fibromyalgia is an incurable widespread condition with extreme fatigue and it often causes disability. Up to 2.7 million people are diagnosed with fibromyalgia with about 4,000 people suffering from fibromyalgia in Rochester and Strood alone.
Kelly will be working closely alongside Fibromyalgia Action UK, which is a registered charity run primarily by unpaid volunteers – many of whom are fibromyalgia sufferers – working to forward the cause of fibromyalgia.
On her appointment, Kelly said: “I am privileged to become a Fibromyalgia Ambassador and to help raise awareness about this condition both locally and nationally. I know people living with Fibromyalgia in every community and profession, which is why they need adequate support to cope with this challenging condition.
“I would also like to encourage constituents of Rochester and Strood living with Fibromyalgia, and who might need any related healthcare or welfare information, to please contact Fibromyalgia Action UK. Their team stand ready with free helplines, healthcare information and any other essential support that might be required.
