Following the application by Gladman to develop 225 homes at Cliffe Woods, Kelly Tolhurst MP has joined the many local campaigners against the proposal.
Kelly has received around 70 representations from local residents so far expressing a number of shared and deep concerns. Kelly shares the concerns having also looked at the development proposals and similarly concluding that such a development will no doubt have such a major impact on the village, its residents, the environment and the connecting infrastructure.
Working with ward and parish councillors, Kelly has set up a public meeting in the village to discuss residents’ concerns and look at options. The meeting will be held at Cliffe Woods Community Centre Friday 7th October at 6pm, where Kelly and local councillors will be in attendance.
On the development and public meeting, Kelly said,
“This poorly considered development is clearly causing much distress and concern to the residents of Cliffe Woods, a village I have known all my life to be loved for its peaceful and leafy atmosphere.
After discussions with ward councillors and the local parish council, we have decided to hold a public meeting in order for us to discuss the many concerns in more detail, and therefore represent Cliffe Woods’ residents in the best way possible. It will also serve as an opportunity to give the community more information about the planning process and how we can all work together for the benefit of the village and the surrounding area.
It is important we continue to come together as a community to fight those proposals that will only damage the fabric and environment of our area and strain our local infrastructure and services. That is why I hope to see Cliffe Woods residents come out in their large numbers on 7 October to defend their community.”
Kelly will be making her own representation to Medway Council in advance of the submission deadline of 14 October.
