Last week I was pleased to visit Viridor Collection Services on the Medway City Estate. The Rochester Viridor site – amongst general waste management – specialises in sorting a wide range of plastics into high quality material through its Polymer Recycling Facility. These recycled materials are then available to enter the manufacturing sector.
Viridor is a great example of safe and sustainable waste management and I am pleased to see the business thriving within Rochester. Both its plastics recycling centre and its regional office based on the Medway City Estate offers significant local career opportunities which is contributing to our area’s reducing unemployment.
I was also delighted to learn that Viridor has a Charitable Donations Committee with an annual pot of £50,000 allocated to be donated to charities local to the Medway facility. Many of the programmes sponsored deliver real social and environmental benefit and engagement.
Requests for funding from the Viridor Charitable Donations Committee can be made by any registered charity, not for profit body or properly constituted community organisation, group or individual. Donations generally range from £50 to £1,000, but a maximum of £3,000 may be requested.
I would like to encourage any local charities or community groups to take a look at Viridor’s charitable donations at https://viridor.co.uk/sustainability/charitable-giving/community-funding-and-sponsorship/.
