This week Kelly Tolhurst MP took time out from the busy Parliamentary schedule and General Election campaign planning to take part in the Royal Mail Christmas Stamps competition for children across the country as a regional judge.
Primary school children from across the South East entered the competition. The competition gives children of primary school age the unique opportunity to create the official Royal Mail Christmas Stamps for 2017.
The stamps will appear on millions of items of mail that will be sent over the Christmas period, helping to spread the festive joy at a special time of the year.
Kelly Tolhurst MP praised the initiative and said,
“This is a wonderful opportunity for primary school children across our region to make a special contribution to this year’s Christmas period and it is wonderful so many children have taken part.
“I have been impressed by the talent and creativity displayed and it has been a difficult decision to list my top five. I want to wish all entrants the best of luck and I look forward to seeing the winning stamps adorning our mail later this year.”
Only three times in Royal Mail’s history has the official Christmas stamps been designed by children – in 1966, 1981 and 2013. The finalists will be judged in May and the two winners of the first and second class stamp designs announced in the summer.
