Rochester and Strood MP Kelly Tolhurst met with apprentices to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2018, which runs this week from 5 to 9 March.
Co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service, National Apprenticeship Week 2018 is the 11th annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships in England and is designed to celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses, local communities and the wider economy.
During the Week employers and apprentices will come together to celebrate the success of apprenticeships whilst encouraging even more people to choose an apprenticeship as the pathway to a great career, and that is no different in both Rochester and Strood.
Since her election in 2015, Kelly has visited a number of businesses of many trades across the constituency to see first-hand the skills and work of apprenticeships. Many have been educated in Medway’s local schools and colleges, but such is the increase of skills in the area that apprentices are now also coming from further afield.
To celebrate this success and encourage more local skilled young people to take up and apprenticeship, Kelly Tolhurst MP has this week confirmed she will host an Apprenticeship Fair on Friday 4th May 2018, 10am to 2pm at the Medway University Technical College. This event will provide students and others with a wonderful opportunity to learn new skills and add to the next generation of a business’s future and culture.
MP Kelly Tolhurst said:
“It has been with great pride to have seen the success of Rochester and Strood’s apprentices since my election and to see how their role impacts on the running of the business.
“Apprenticeships are so important to those undertaking them – giving them the skills they need to succeed in life and in a role they want to progress in – and to employers, giving them the opportunity to mould and shape the workforce they need.
“I am delighted to support National Apprenticeship Week by confirming this week that I will be holding an apprenticeship fair on Friday 4th May, where businesses can showcase their apprenticeship schemes and students close to graduation can look to secure their futures here in Medway and help boost our local economy.”
