Major Boost for Care Workers
Great news for everyone in the care sector, with the announcement of a package designed to boost careers in care. This initiative is all about supporting our invaluable care workers, helping to recruit and retain staff through new, qualifications, digital training, and funded apprenticeships.
Involving around 116,000 training courses and qualifications, including 34,000 Care Certificate qualifications and continuous professional development opportunities for approximately 35,000 professionals, these steps are aimed at boosting domestic recruitment, enabling the training and retention of more staff within the UK. Almost £2 billion is being allocated over two years to help local authorities expand the workforce, with a focus on increasing capacity, retention, and higher pay. Plus, new investment for the recruitment of social work and nurse apprentices in adult social care.
What does this involve?

✅Over £50 million dedicated to a new Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate qualification, benefitting up to 37,000 care workers.

These reforms are all about empowering care workers with the right skills and expertise, ensuring high-quality care and clear career progression. With the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate launching in June, care workers can look forward to a qualification that's recognised across roles, saving time and costs on repeat training. The digital leadership qualification is set to embed vital digital skills in core training, further supporting career development in the care sector. This initiative, in partnership with Skills for Care, is a game-changer, recognizing the professionalism and value of the adult social care workforce and enhancing the overall perception of a career in care.
